Wet Weather Keeps Hiking Trails Open

It is one of the things that are loved about southern California, the sun that causes all of their hiking trails to close every year due to fire hazard. The objective, according to Fire Chief John R. Hawkins, in the County of Riverside (just outside Los Angeles) is to keep the public safe. The good news is that there has been enough rain that some of the hiking trails will stay open an extra week. The rain has made the fire hazard on hiking trails less hazardous and of course the public will want to take advantage of this. If you live in southern California and would like to keep updated they have a public information office and the phone number is 940-6985. The rules for staying on the hiking trails are relatively stern and monetary fines are imposed on those not obeying the rules. Fire is a deadly natural force and we all know that it is important to maintain the beauty, safety, and enjoyment by following all the rules of the hiking trails. Some trails are closed now so it is probably a good idea to keep your eyes open to what is available and your ears to the ground. Enjoy our beautiful country safely, and legally.
